The Ye Ole Sweet Shoppe is a family owned bakery located in the heart of downtown Erie, Pennsylvania. Ask around and you’ll see that over the past 25 years, the Ye Ole Sweet Shoppe has certainly made a name for itself. From the thick and chewy chocolate chip cookies to the large variety of homemade desserts to the old fashioned handspun milkshakes, there is something to cater to every sweet tooth.

In 1983, The Ye Ole Sweet Shoppe opened its doors for the first time on the corner of 4th and State St. With a small gas oven and a product line consisting of 4 varieties of cookies, Erie-ites slowly made their way to the new downtown bakery. Ten years later, the shop was sold to Jean Alecci, a cousin of the previous owner. Jean brought the Ye Ole Sweet Shoppe’s popularity to new levels by introducing new recipes, ice cream, a variety of coffees, and gift arrangements. For 16 years, Jean put her heart and soul into every aspect of the business making it a “famous” bakery in the Erie area. In 2009, Jean decided to step down from the baking business as she sold the Ye Ole Sweet Shoppe to a longtime employee, Lea Yadeski.

Currently, Lea is working to renovate the shop on 4th and State as well as the internet. Adding a splash of color to the walls, and a new atmosphere reminiscent of old time soda shops, Lea hopes to attract more people to the shop on a daily basis. And with the launch of YeOleSweets.com, Lea hopes that the rest of the nation will enjoy the cookies that she loved as a child, as an employee and now, as the owner.
